This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Little back ground infromation I am at a school that hasn't had a winning season in the past 20 years and has not been to the playoffs in 30 this is my 3rd year at the school as the DC and OL coach and this is our head coaches 4th the past 4 season we have been 4-4, 1-9, 3-6. Currently this season we are 3-2 we are on the cusp of turning it around. Last nite we dropped a game to a team we definately should have beat. We ended up getting blown out, Head Coach put a little pressure on the kids to win (must win game) and they folded like a house of cards. We need to win next Saturday nite against our most hated league opponent to get into the playoffs. What would you do during the week to try and motivate the kids?? Head Coach feels that the reason we lost was due to the pressure he put on the kids when they game was really not that big a deal. So we are in a win and your in situation??? Have you ever been in a situation like this before??
SURE, COACH, lot's of times!!! I'VE HAD LOT'S OF 10-0 SEASONS, BUT I HAVE ALSO HAD A LOT OF 8-2, 7-3 SEASONS AND IT ALL COMES DOWN TO ONE BIG GAME AS TO IF YOU MAKE THE PLAYOFFS OR NOT.
As winning coaches will tell you, it is team morale that REALLY COUNTS the most in winning. My favorite way of maintaining that at optimum level was to make the practice week prior to the big game a fun week.
PRACTICE INTENSLY, ABSOLUTELY, BUT THEN REWARD THEM FOR HAVING DONE SO. A big cook out with burgers and dogs, a pizza bash at their favorite pizza joint, take them to a inspirational football movie or whatever they like to do to just relax and have a good time. You will find, coach, that it will do wonders for your kids.

IN VIEW OF THE PAST HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL, I WOULD SELL THEM ON THE IDEA THAT THEIR TEAM IS IN POSITION TO BE THE ONE THAT CAN CHANGE ALL OF THAT! THEY CAN BE THE "CHOSEN GENERATION" SO TO SPEAK TO TURN THE FOOTBALL FORTUNES AROUND FOR YEARS TO COME. "NO PRESSURE, JUST GO OUT AND PLAY LIKE YOUR CAPABLE OF AND WE WILL BE FINE". THEY HAVE A CHANCE FOR REAL GLORY IN THEIR HOME TOWN THAT WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED!!!

If you have a "nervous" type team "chemistry" - avoid the emotional "peaks & valleys" at all costs! Have them play on an "even keel" emotionally. That does not mean that you can't play with GREATER INTENSITY than your opponent - you MUST do this!
I would say that we are trying to stay on an even keel but when it goes bad its real bad. When its good its outstanding. I gave them the how do you want to be remembered talked that Coach Easton spoke about and they seemed to respond will continue to build on this during the week. We just have trouble overcoming adversity.
Coach Easton
We have tried alot of what you talk about but nothing has worked. Gave the how do you want to be remembered bit and that went ok. Just trying to find the right button to push. If we can win saturday nite it could very well be the event that changes the culture around are program. Kinda of that "right now moment." you know were a bad team becomes good or a good team becomes great.
The greatest evolution in football today is not with the game it'self but rather with THOSE WHO PLAY IT!!!
Have heard recently of some really good coaches hanging it up because they can't stomach the players attitudes anymore. THEY LACK THE REAL INTENSITY OR LOVE OF THE GAME. I wish you the best of luck
come Saturday night coach. PLEASE KEEP US INFORMED OF HOW YOU DO.

Attitudes have definately changed. Its really tough for us to enforce any kind of mandatory summer workout attendance rules or things like that because we honestly wouldn't have a team. We are pretty lucky if we get 3-4 kids a day coming in, if we get a summer when we have more than 6 regularly lifting we know we are going to have a good year. We have found the best thing is not really something you as a coach can control. The best seasons we've had have really revolved around that one player that has IT. The kid that makes everybody around him better. When we've had kids with great leadership like that our seasons have been great. The kids all have confidence that they can follow that kid to win, whether he's a Q or a running back, or a great linebacker, try to find a kid that all the other kids look to and sell him on your system, once he buys it the rest will get in line.
If a team WON'T out-hit, & out-hustle your opponent (remember - football is a game of "IMPOSING YOUR WILL ON YOUR OPPONENT") you won't win. You PREACH this to your players from the FIRST day of practice - then PRACTICE TOUGH! Remember: "TOUGHNESS IS CONTAGIOUS, & UNFORTUNATELY, SO IS A LACK OF TOUGHNESS"!!!
You don't have to give a "Pit Bull" a pep talk to get him ready to fight another dog (except maybe "sic-em")! If you don't have a TEAM of "pit bulls" - nothing verbal will move them!
PS: I saw in TODAY'S paper that Paul Johnson (Head Coach at Georgia Tech) said: "PHYSICAL SUPERIORITY CANCELS ALL THEORIES"!!!!!!! That is the MOST TRUE statement I have heard in over 40 years of coaching on all 3 levels. Young coaches will do well to remember this - FORGET new plays, gimmicks; & all the other "B.S." in the game etc., & concentrate on PHYSICAL football IF you want to win!
So we lost the game 34-27. Gave up 2 long touchdowns on playaction pass when we had our Corner man on the TE. Corner was undisplined stared in the backfield and the TE ran a post route for a touchdown twice. Both times we had the same stunt called and if the kid would have covered his guy we would have sacked the qb.
The worst part is this kids mother is the school libarian and his father is a music teacher and both have some pull with super. and AD. and both came up to me after the game and expressed concerns about the way there son was being coached (we pulled him after the 2nd TD pass). Then I get an email yesterday from the AD that I am going to have a meeting with him and the kids parents. The kid was a starting QB (back up corner) so we pulled him for a sophomore (who played great) and decided to start him at corner because our other corner who plays both ways was sick. The kid was fine in practice but didn't focus (part of the reason he lost his job as QB) If the meeting doesn't go good and I don't get any support from the AD then I will most likely resign at the end of the season and look for a job else were or if worst comes to worst take a year off from coaching. I will let you know how things turn out and thanks for listening to me vent.
This is the most disappointed I have ever been after a football game. We were so close to achieving our goal of being a playoff team. This week we play the number 1 ranked team in our state. They have given up a total of 24 points through 6 games. Won the state title last year and have a 19 game win streak.
Remember these two FAMOUS quotes (in dealing with parents, AD, etc.):
(GEORGE C. MARSHALL) “Never make even the slightest compromise between right and wrong”!
(WINSTON CHURCHILL) “Never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never – in nothing great or small, large or petty – never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense”!!!
