Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Please give me your thoughts on the effectiveness of blitzing linebackers from their pre snap alignment,
rather than showing the blitz by cheating toward the LOS and giving it away.
You can do a lot of things and give many different looks to an offense. you can show with one backer then have him back out and bring another. Have them creep up during the cadance and back out. Right as the offense is coming to the LOS be in a blitzing stance staced behind the DT. Making the offense think you might have a stunt on. you can show early and back out early, show and bring it. All thins is to confuse the OL and have them change and/or hesitate in their blocking scheme. Let the LB's have fun and fly around, cause chaos. but make sure they are doing their job whitih the defensive scheme.
The only problem we've ever had of showing and backing out of the blitz is getting nailed backing up from the LOS. We will show and try to time it up, show it to one gap and run it to another and not show it at all, but rarely show and back away unless it is an obvious passing down.
You SCOUT their cadence! Then - you determine how much disguise you use!
PS: In OUR Oneback offense (which uses 3 free releases & 2 check releeases - which gives you 7 man protection) ONLY the F/S needs to be read. IF he stays in MOF - we can block any blitz they bring. If he cheats down on an inside WR (giving away a blitz off the edge to that side) we may check the protection from 1 side to another, but we do not need to CHANGE the protection nor the play! We keep these things in mind defensively when setting up OUR blitz system.
DEFENSIVELY - If you are an 8 man front team - the F/S has to do the disguise - a good team won't even LOOK at the LBers, etc.!
We scout the QB's mannerisms pre snap. Check to see how he scans...
For us alot of times against shot gun teams we will have our guys "hold their water" until the QB knees to let the center know he is ready for the snap. Once our guys get the knee key our movement begins.
Looking for keys like that will help you when disguising. Other ones we have used are waiting for the QB to put his hands under center, once they start motion, etc...
