Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I know some of this has been mentioned in previous threads but I would love some more input on this. I am leaning towards playing my Ends in a low 2 point stance instead of playing them down. I feel they can read blocks and backfield action better. We are playing the 4-4 if that helps. What do you think? 7 tech and 5 tech as well.
In my opinion, 4-man-front DE's should be in a 3 pt stance. My rationale is that they need to be able to hold the line, and for most HS kids, they can't do it as well from a 2 pt stance. That being said, there are definately exceptions, and if you have a couple of those, then certainly play them up. But in my experience, unless there is more support inside, I keep my ends in a three pt stance, attacking the man across from them, and reading the block from there. I don't want my DE's ever reading backfield action. All they need to read is downblock, baseblock, pull and/or hook, pass.

There is nothing that will show a man's true character like the 2 yard line.
we tried playing our weakside 5-tech in a 2pt stance and really didn't see an advantage to it. we did this for 2 preseason games and the first 3 regular season games. we decided to can it after that.
I prefer a 2 pt stance to the weak side, and 3 pt vs. the TE because we play a 7 tech vs the TE. I teach my DE on the weak side to read from OT, to OG(for pull) to Near back. In our defense the the DE is responsible for the QB on options and QB read plays.
In a 40 front I personally expect penetration regardless of what tech they play. I dont want them holding the line reading, I want them one yard deep (just behind the OL heels) head up, eyes open, looking for the ball. A 2 point stance does not give you the thrust or leverage needed to get off the ball and beat the OL.
imho, the more pressure your DL can put on the ball the better it will be for your LB's as the offense attempts to adjust to stop penetration with double teams.
Its not about how much YOU know about the game, its about how much you share that knowledge with the people around you.
