Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Any one ever play a 2i and a 7 tech and have the 7 tech cover the TE man for man. Similar to how teams that run the split 4 and 46 cover the TE. The thing that worries me is there is huge gap for the defense to exploit??? Any one have experience with this.
We did this when we ran a particular stunt. We sent the OLB through D-gap(responsible for any flaring RB), the LB to the same side through C-gap, and slant the line to the TE. We kept the FS in the middle of the field (sometimes we sent him, too). On paper, every gap is covered to the TE side; there isn't anywhere to run. The backside gaps are squeezed by the slant.
The DE on the TE had the TE. We told him to lock on the TE and force the TE to go laterally and run with him; do not let him release down the field. The DE did not really have a gap vs the run.
We did not run this every down, and sometimes we ran it on a pass down.
The old "Wide-6" teams ("Bear" Bryant, etc.) used the 2I & 7 techniques, HOWEVER, if the O-Line splits so that the distance between the 2I & 7 is OVER 2 to 2 1/2 yds. - they will CRUCIFY you on Isos, ETC. In THAT case - the ILB made a call that put the 7 in a 5, & the 8 in a 9!!!!!!!
We used this defense for YEARS, & the above advice is IMPERATIVE (IMO)!

PS: To keep from being TRAPPED out of the ballpark - the "2I's" must not be split mote than fingertip touch apart over the ball. They took their alignments off each other rather than the OG.
