Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
First thing I would do is determine the acceptance level within the town. Are folks interested in having it?
How big are the schools that will support your program? Do you have sustainable numbers to continue the program year after year?
Do you have a place to play (Home Field)
How far will you have to travel to have teams to play against? Are they similar sized towns or larger cities?
What age groups are you considering?
I encourage you to visit at least 3 or 4 towns around you that have football programs and ask if you can sit in on a board meeting. Dont judge just observe how they do it. Ask questions just like you are here. Ask how they raise funds ask what their big expenditures are.
My best guess to field 3 or 4 teams is about 10 grand on the low side.
It took us one year to raise funds, get the word out, establish a board of directors, develop by laws, and rules. We were extremely fortunate to be able to pair up with another town to purchase equipment both new and used to get us off the ground. Our first year we had 2 teams that played 6/7 and 8th. 7 years later we have 8 teams from K-8th grade. Our 5 year plan was to be independent and on our own without the additional help from our neighbors. We accomplished this in 4 years. We have also added our own facility with lights and a scoreboard. On top of that we were able to get a program started at our High School. They made it to the second round of the state playoffs last season.
BY ALL MEANS YES IT CAN BE DONE
the MOST IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER IS ITS A YEAR ROUND JOB. You have to keep the program in the public eye. Off season fund raisers, Church Bulletins, How to clinics, T-Shirt Sales, Car Washes.
Do the exploratory stuff first before you spend one dime.
Get help, Get Lots of Help.
ENTHUSIASM, ENTHUSIASM, ENTHUSIASM
Our little Town Rocks on Friday Nights and Saturday Afternoon.
How big are we.....less than 2000 (and that includes the dogs and cats...LOL)
Good Luck, its hard work but man is it ever worth it.
Its not about how much YOU know about the game, its about how much you share that knowledge with the people around you.
I would suggest holding a public meeting, inviting anyone interested in starting a youth football league. Besides posting your meeting info wherever possible online and with local news outlets, I'd look into handing out fliers at local sporting events, baseball games, etc. as well to help publicize your efforts. The level of interest will be evident and should give you an idea as how to proceed from there and more importantly, who to proceed with!
That is exactly how we got started 11 years ago and like JFLCOACH said, it can certainly be done. We started that first season with about 150 kids from one town and now have a little over 1,200 playing on 62 teams in 10 area communities. It takes a great deal of work obviously, but few things are as gratifying as seeing the smiles on your kids' faces every opening day!
Please feel free to contact me if I can help you in any way once you've ascertained how much interest is out there.
Best of luck!

I have recently authored a book for first year coaches. If you would like to get the material, let me know... I am more interested in helping people than making money off of it.. the book is set to be published soon. If the material helps you thanI would love to pass on what I have learned.
