How do I get my kids to blitz under conrol and see whats in front of them? Sometimes they just penetrate and run past the damn ball. Should they be hitting the gap at full speed or what? Where are their eyes supposed to be? I went to a clinic and the Penn State LB coach spoke, but I missed him. Im still pissed about that!!!
They need to hit the hole at full speed, but they need to be looking through the hole at the backfield. If the near back is going away, they need to come off the hip of the OL and look to the inside IMMEDIATELY. If the backfield crosses your face and goes outside, again, look at what is trailing before you pursue--contain needs to make that play. Your blitzers need to realize that they are still only a piece of the defense--just because they are blitzing, does not mean they are absolutely needing to make the play.

There is nothing that will show a man's true character like the 2 yard line.
