Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We will face two teams this year that have gone over to the fly sweep. They run it out of a spread look with the QB in gun and under center. One of the teams also runs counter, trap and dive so far off this look. For those of you that have faced this what was worked in taking away the sweep? We run cv3 and our Base which is the spur lines up over #1 and reads #2. If #2 goes verticle then the spur takes #1 if he goes verticle if #2 does anything else then the spur settels in the flat.

I assume your spur is the outside linebacker. I have the corners reading number one and then the spur would read number 2. If number 2 releases otside the spur would take his eyes to number one is this what you are speaking about. Coach CAmpbell
Coach, I realize this is late, but I assume playing a cover 3 base you mean to say your corners are playing 10-12 yards off the ball and that's why your spur is lining up over #1.
You lose a lot of run support by putting your spur over #1. That opens up that sweep. Even in cover 3, I'd allow your spurs to check outside for contain and then drop to flat responsibility. Play them in a 3x5 alignment off the EMOLOS. I'd play my corner up on #1 as well, maybe slightly off. That puts him in better position for run support as well.

No the corners align over the top of number at a depth of 6 to 7 yards and the spurs or outside linebackers responsible for the number 2 receiver their side normally maintaining an inside out position on number two. When patern reading and the outside linebacker gets an out side release by number two then he takes his eyes to number one to see if he releases inside replacing number 2.
