We run mostly rocket toss with FB belly or trap and also a wingback counter off of rocket action. The last game or two we have had trouble with teams running double 3 techs and then putting both ILBs in the A gaps. Sometimes they are just lined up real tight and plugging those gaps and sometimes they are blitzing right at the snap from 1-2 yards back. We have hit some big plays since they have no inside-out pursuit but teams are slanting the DLine out through the B and C gaps making it tough to reach them to get to the edge. We have put in a couple of quick passes off rocket action but we also decided that if defenses are going to slant their C gap players out we should be running inside veer. We have thought about this for a couple of seasons but didn't put it in until this week. Also we know of the time commitment of running inside veer and asking the QB to read it. We have decided to veer block the play but pre-determine the give to the FB or keep. The keep then turns into a double option with the motion back and the playside wing walling off the ILB to FS. We are going to block it like veer every time and not go to the option until we know the unblocked C gap defender will be on the FB. If we had put this in back in the summer we might have decided to read it but felt at this point in the season it was best to not attempt to do that. Could I get some feedback on our decision to add this to our offense and our logic on how we decided to run the play? Also does anyone with any experience with running inside veer but pre-determining the give/keep have any words of wisdom?
