Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Does anyone have any resources on the Wide 9 defense? I've been looking at ways to implement it for a HS defense. Essentially, I'd run it as more of a 3-4 type of defense, with the weak side end being a 2pt stance/spill player... I was going to use the base of a 4-3 Over defense and just play around with frontages, but with the recent trend of the wide 9, I figured I'd take a look at any materials that could maybe help me design the defense a bit differently.

I have never heard the term wide nine defense could you explain a little more on what it looks like. I have heard of wide tackle 6 but never a wide nine. Coach Campbell
Sure. The Wide 9 is the base defense the Philadelphia Eagles run (and the Detroit Lions and the Titans before under Schwartz).
It's more of a frontage than it is an entire defense.
Basically it off sets their Open End (weak side) in a 9 technique. Essentially, the way I'd run it would be to make it look like a 3-4 defense. The Wide 9 end in the Philly D is a three or four point stance spill player.
The way I intend to set up the D, I would put them in a 2 and give them the same responsibilities, with the addition of zone blitzes. Thus making that player more of a hybrid linebacker/defensive end..
The under tackle and nose tackle can play traditional 1 or 3 techs. I know some 9's that I've seen have the 3 tech to the weak side and the 1 to the strong, and some run it the more traditional way, with the 1 tech on the weak side.
I know one thing that the Eagles have done is put in two wide 9's and two 3 techs on passing downs. It opens up the field for run, but if you have good linebackers who make solid reads, I think those running lanes, especially on a third and long, will get clogged. It also forces one on ones in pass pro and makes the guards kick out. Especially if you mug the center with the MIKE.
I was just looking for more background on this style of defense. There isn't a whole lot on the internet about it, and I haven't seen many books about the "Wide 9"

Not sure this will help, but we are a 4-4 defense and we play our DE's in 5's ,7's, head up & stunt, but also use calls Jet (Wide 9), Jet Box (Wide 9-Set on Screens-Blitz both ILB's) and Jet Blood (Align Wide 9 and stunt back inside). This combination of DE techs has been good for us.
