Mission Statement:
Our mission statement is defined by WHO WE ARE. We are a well-coached program that will play a consistent championship style of football every time we take the field. We will be aggressive in all three phases of the game. We will exhibit both mental and physical toughness at all times. Everyone involved in our program will be loyal to the cause. We will make a total commitment to the success of this Bulldog football program. We will develop trust in one another both on and off the field. With trust comes respect. We have the opportunity to build something special at Holmes Community College. We will become the BULLDOG BROTHERHOOD.
Vision:
Our vision here at Holmes Community College, we will commit ourselves to be men of character and strive for excellence in the classroom, on the field, and as a member of society. We will be more mentally, physically and spiritually in order to meet the daily challenges of the present and the future. Through relentless execution of fundamentals, we seek to get better every day and develop consistency in all we do. We commit ourselves to reaching our full potential and realize that every action needs to be made with the TEAM in mind. We also seek to develop and maintain an unbelievable work ethic so that we are worthy of the opportunity to play the great game of football, represent the program on the field and in the community, and deserve to be State CHAMPIONS.
We will train our players to see failure and opportunity as opposite sides of the same coin. We will have sessions after wins and losses that point out the positive things that did go on during a game or practice. The inner game of competing against yourself will slowly become the measuring stick. We believe that the journey to success is more important than the success itself. When we focus on the journey, we lower the risk of failure for our players by seeing the self- development as being the biggest goal. Instilling a sense of higher purpose in our players gives them a sense they are a part of something larger than each of them is individually. The biggest sense we can establish for our team is the sense of caring that we will always employ. Any coach can demand excellence, but only winning coaches realize that they must earn their player's commitment.
The success of the program will rise or fall on the ability, initiative, and ambition of the coaching staff. The single most important characteristic of a successful CHAMPIONS COACH IS IN HIS/HER ABILITY TO TEACH, AND TO BE A GREAT TEACHER. No coach has ever won a game by what he knows or thinks he knows; it is based on what his players have learned. Championships are decided by the little things. Thus, paying meticulous attention to details of teaching is critical. When we teach the game, simplicity should be one of the greatest guides we follow. If players continue getting it wrong, either we cannot teach it or the method is too complicated. To win, it will be essential that we build men and coach at a level, which is superior to that coached by our opponent. Every week your position creates something for you to sign, so put your name on it. Are you proud of your product? A Championship is obtained by uncommon people who will be willing to do and perform the extraordinary.
Core Values:
We will run a well-disciplined program. In order to be successful, we will ask these questions: Will it make him a better person, student, and athlete? If the answer to any of the above is "yes", we will not compromise our thought, regardless of the consequences involved. Discipline is a key ingredient to building a successful program. It is impossible to disciple others if we are not disciplined ourselves. Self-discipline among our coaching staff is critical to turning around this program. We must give our athletes the same amount of love and attention as being disciple. However, too much of either ingredient will yield negative results so we must stay balanced. Our program will not have many rules we cannot enforce. I am a firm believer that you can run a disciplined program and the players will accept it if they know the coaching staff honestly cares about them as people rather than objects. We must love our players as if they are our own children. As coaches can find a hundred different reasons to dislike any player or person, or we can find an equal number of reasons to care for him/her and believe in them. When a player knows that the discipline is to help us to win and care about them becoming better people, they will be on their way to success. If our discipline is to simply help us win, or to show them how tough we are without caring about them as a person, then we will lose them.
Awards:
Diamonds: These are given out possibly daily. You can achieve a diamond with a great effort daily. The whole day is evaluated rather than just a segment. A diamond is the hardest and most precious gem in the world. The same applies to a player who practices the hardest.
Hard Hat: This is given out to the player who has the best week of practice. The one with the hard hat works hard every day and gets his job done.
Leadership of the Game: This person will be recognized every Sunday for an outstanding form of leadership during the football game.
Goal Recognition: This will be overviewed every Sunday to see our progress with our goals for each game.
Put Ups: We will utilize these after any form of competition. This will give you the opportunity to recognize your fellow teammate's efforts.
Offensively:
Our primary job is to catch the defense not align correctly and trying to make substitution change. This will be carried out by running a no huddle explosive offense, with lots of motions. The goal is the snap the ball every 10-15 seconds. Our goals are to score a touchdown every five minutes, first drive points, outscore opponent offense, no turnovers, four + big plays and score every quarter.
Defensively:
No matter what it takes, our primary job is to keep the offense in the game. Furthermore, we must see ourselves as an extension of our offense and must take the ball away to set up good position for them. We must knock the ball loose, force mistakes, and cause turnovers. Turnovers and making big plays win games. We will be alert and aggressive and take advantage of every opportunity to make a big play.
