.As the head coach of a football program, I expect our entire coaching staff to set highest standards of professionalism, both on and off the field. We must represent our institutional and program's core values, principles, and codes of conduct through our actions and behavior. We will set the example for other programs and coaches to emulate. Our success will reflect and support our moral standards, drawing positive attention and publicity, helping our program thrive by attracting high character student-athletes.
Expectations of an assistant coach on the field:
1) Coach to the best of your abilities every moment you're on the field.
2) Treat players with firmness, fairness, and dignity, throughout all sessions, practices, and competitions. "Call a Spade a Spade."
3) Be supportive, accepting, and understanding of basic player attributes and abilities, but holding players accountable for their effort, passion, and dedication to program.
4) Never use profanity towards a player or other coach.
5) Never embarrass, demoralize, or belittle a player or other coach.
6) Never use tobacco, alcohol, or other foreign substances anywhere on campus. Maintain sobriety of any substance before engaging in team activities.
7) Personally approach and/or acknowledge all parents, administrators, staff members, and players while entering, exiting, or taking part in team activities.
8) Be an active member of the staff. Look to contribute to all aspects of program activities, including your portions and also assisting other in preparing and helping others run a session.
9) Supervise players in all of the designated areas our program is responsible for and monitor player conduct.
10) "First ones in, last ones out." Be the first person to turn the lights on before team activities and the last one to hit the switch on the way out.
11) Be on time for all meetings, practice, games, and program activities.
12) Make sure all players are completing team assignments in a timely manner. "Inspect, don't Expect."
13) Take a personal interest in player development and progress. Make sure you're speaking with our players about their current status and future goals.
14) Be professional with all coaches within the staff, regardless of rank or stature. If there is a disagreement between coaches, make sure it is conducted behind closed doors and not in the view of our players.
15) Never create or engage in an altercation with a parent or fan in front of the public view. If the situation can be prevented or controlled, speak with them in private. If it cannot, schedule a mediation time with the coaching staff, athletic director, and upset parent/fan.
16) Be up to date and on schedule with the coaching staff and program activities.
17) Continuously strive to improve your skills on your craft. Organize yourself, the drills and activities you're conducting, and have a plan for everything you do.
18) If you're unable to attend a practice, if you will be late, or if you have to leave early, make sure you communicate the message with other coaches on staff.
19) Player safety is our first priority! Make sure they are hydrated and well equipped. Ensure that your drills and sessions are safe and productive.
20) "Never Give Up, Never Quit, Stick Together."
Expectations of an assistant coach off the field:
1) Represent the institution, program, and team, with the highest level of respect, integrity, and moral standards.
