Coach, I have been coaching for four years. Three of those being at a 5A school that I am at now, and one while I was in college at a 4A school. I am 28 years old. I am the Assistant Head Coach/Co-Defensive Coordinator/Special Teams Coordinator and Strength and Conditioning Coach. The head coach brought me into this school with him. Before we arrived the school was 15-26 in the previous four years combined. Our third season isn't over yet, but in our first two seasons we were 21-4, losing to the state champions in the quarterfinals our first year, who moved up classification the following year, and lost to the State Champions in the Semi-Finals last year. We are 7-2 so far this season with one Senior starting on offense and one on Defense. We lost 26 Seniors to graduation. We also won an Overall State Championship in Powerlifting this past year. I say these things to let you know that I am not just a young guy that doesn't study the game, or know how to be successul and is just like every young guy that thinks he knows it all. I do not know even close to all of it, or even half of it for that matter. I came into coaching offensive minded, but I was moved over to the Defensive side of the ball because the head coach wanted my enthusiasm and intensity on Defense. It has done wonders, not only on learning and being a DC, which I was promoted to my second year, but it has made me a better offensive coach by a hundred times. I just wanted your input on when should you start applying for jobs. I am not the guy who is going to apply to a job where it is impossible to be successful, I consider myself smarter than that. But if the right job comes open, do you think a hiring committee would consider or do you think I should wait a few years. I feel with all the responsibilities I have taken on as an assistant that I am prepared to take the next step. Head Coach actually brought me into his office about being DC and said do you really want this I feel sorry for you already with all the stuff you have to do, he said he sometimes thinks it isn't fair to me. I said no I want this and anything else you have for me. He is a top coach in the state and one of the best offensive minds in high school football. Any advice from anyone would be much appreciated on what steps to take and what you all think.
