Dear Parents and Athletes,
Hello to all of you and welcome to another exciting year of Bearcat Football. It is the hope of the entire Bearcat's coaching staff that you have an enjoyable experience throughout your time on this team. Commitment needs to be a top priority for you in helping US achieve our goal of winning the WIAA 4A State Championship 2014. This means a commitment during the off-season, which is where championships are won. Please read through the following expectations together, sign, and return to Coach Jay immediately.
Every football player at Monroe High School will live up to his title as being a student athlete. All athletes are expected to maintain grades that are in compliance with the WIAA. Bi-weekly progress reports need to be signed and turned into your position coach by Thursday. If they are late, player could forfeit playing time. This is at the discretion of your coaches.
Every Bearcat football player is expected to attend every practice. All appointments need to be arranged outside of practice time. Missing one practice will result in not starting. Two will be a loss of a half and three absences will result in a loss of the game. Unexcused absences will result in loss of playing time as well. Three unexcused absence will be a removal from the team. Your presence is required every day. We have worked hard at putting a game plan together so it is essential that you are there to learn and understand it.
All Monroe Bearcat football players will follow all rules in the Student Athlete's Handbook.
If you are on time, you are late. Time is precious and we need to utilize every second we have to making us a better football team. We need to be ready to go the second the clock strikes 2:45PM. Skilled positions (QB, WR, RB, LB, DB) should get out to practice early and warm-up (pre-practice). The less time we have to focus on warming-up, the more time we can focus on preparing for our spring scrimmages. Our "bigs" (OL/DL) will exhaust their pre-practice period with ladder drills, which will develop better footwork ability.
Respect All! We are a family and we need to treat each other with proper respect and dignity that exact way you would want to be treated. Failure to comply with this RESPECT policy will result in consequences, which will be at the coach's discretion.
Every Bearcat football player will be a respectful citizen of the community. Remember you are representing Monroe High School Football. Do everything "The Bearcat Way."
Report all injuries to Athletic Trainers or coaches as soon as possible. We need to treat every injury with precaution so that the proper steps can be taken to get you back on the field in a timely manner.
Get plenty of rest and eat well everyday. In order for us to have the success we are hoping to have we need each and every athlete to stay healthy and rested. Football is a physical game and it takes all your strength and energy to be successful. Getting plenty of sleep and eating healthy food will help us in achieving our team goals — STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS.
Communication you should expect from coaches:
Dates, location and times of schedules for practices and games (pay close attention for changes).
Expectations we have for your child.
Team requirements: Spirit Packs & Camp Fees
To keep the best interest of your child and the TEAM.
Communication the coaches expect from the athletes:
Proper notification of schedule conflict at least 24 hours in advance.
Productive input on how to make the team better.
Communication from Parents during Sporting Event:
Have great sportsmanship. Keep all comments encouraging. No heckling referees, players coaches, or opponents.
Stay Positive. Remember we are dealing with young adults. Everyone is trying their best to make this team be as successful as it can be.
Your children are going to have one of the most rewarding experiences of their young lives by participating in athletics here at Monroe High School. As a parent, we understand the emotional ties that you have with your child. We want you to understand that the decisions we make for this football team are for the good of the team foremost, and nothing is above that. It is important to understand that there will come a time when what's best for the team may not always be in favor of what your wishes are for you child. It is during these times that we ask you to follow the proper guidelines of meeting with the coaches. Discussions will be limited to the following concerns:
How can I better help my child be successful for the good of the team.
How to approach your child's behavior on the field, classroom, or in the community.
How coaches are treating your child, both mentally and physically.
Medical concerns you might have about your child's well-being.
Please remember that the coaching staff makes decisions that are best for the TEAM. Under no circumstances will we lessen playing time based on liking or disliking your child. We are all teachers and we are here to help these student athletes be successful in the future. With this in mind there are a few situations that are left at the coach's discretion and will not be discussed with the parents. They are the following:
Playing time
Calling of plays (offense, defense, special teams)
Another student athlete
Game plan
We do understand that there are circumstances that may require a conference between the coaches and the parents. It is important that both the parents and coaches understand each others' positions. If a conference is required, please follow the following procedures:
Call or email for a meeting.
If the coach can not be reached, please contact the AD and he will set up a meeting.
Under NO circumstance will you confront any of the coaches before or after a game. Emotions are running very high at this point for parents, athletes, and coaches. Nothing will get resolved when meeting under these conditions.
If you are still not satisfied with the decisions of the meeting, then call and set-up a meeting with our Athletic Director and Principal.
It has been proven that students that partake in school athletics have a much better success rate. The skills and relationships that every student athlete will gain from this football team will help prepare them for the future. We are building life-long learners in this district and the football players of Monroe High School will take these skills that they have gained and apply them in the future.
With the help and commitment of parents, athletes, and the coaches we hope we can continue the success that has been created here by past coaches and help bring new traditions as well. We look forward to working with you and your child throughout their careers here at Monroe and then into their future. Thanks for your time and understanding of what it takes to build a successful program
