In the "INDIVIDUAL" period - we rep the hell out of our three BASIC individual blocks (as well as a fourth = individual PASS PRO technique).
The 3 basic individual RUN BLOCKS are the 'DRIVE", "REACH", & "DOWN" (AKA: Angle or Gap) blocks. They are taught as follows:
BLOCKING FUNDAMENTALS
STANCE:
Explosive and balanced to enable the blocker to move in four (4) directions with vertical leverage. Eyes are up (strain thru the eyebrows).
LANDMARK:
Point of aim, target. Area on defender to place the hands and direct the feet.
LEVERAGE:
A. Vertical: Pads lower than defender's pads
B. Horizontal: Lateral
FOOTWORK: (Step at landmark with vertical leverage).
A. First step = directional; playside – 6” step – step at the landmark. Adjust your first step to the horizontal alignment of the defender (I.E. width and depth).
B. Second step = quickness to get this step down to create power and suddenness.
HAND PLACEMENT:
Thumbs up with the elbows in tight to your framework.
FINISH!!!!!:

3 BASIC INDIVIDUAL RUN BLOCKING TECHNIQUES:
1. DRIVE:
A) 6" Lead step with near foot. "Angle of departure" is TO the aiming point with eyes on that landmark.
B) Aim eyes down the middle (if alone), or outside # (inside zone).
C) Get the second step down quick for power (don’t cross over).
D) Contact with fists under his pads into short ribs with your elbows in tight.
E) Climb, drive, and sustain.
2. REACH:
A) 6" Lead step with near foot. "Angle of departure" is TO the aiming point with eyes on that landmark.
B) Aim eyes thru outside # (if alone), or outside arm pit (outside zone).
C) Get the second step down quick for power (split the crotch of the defender)
D) Contact with fists under his pads into short ribs with your elbows in tight (inside hand under sternum & outside hand under armpit).
E) Engage and square up. Third step outside defender's outside shoe.
F) Sustain.
3. DOWN (AKA: ANGLE or GAP):
A) 6" Lead step with inside foot at a 45 degree angle (gain ground – do not pivot on inside foot). "Angle of departure" is TO the aiming point with eyes on that landmark.
B) Aim eyes at near hip and adjust to the man’s charge. NOTE: If he is a penetrator - step flat down the L.O.S. & aim hat in front of him.
C) Get second step down quick for power.
D) Contact with fists under his pads into short ribs with your elbows in tight (inside fist under sternum & outside fist under arm pit).
E) Sustain.
