Any discussion of this topic would HAVE to be broken down into many CATEGORIES. Simply asking about HOW to defend the "Triple" won't get it done!!!
It begs the question "WHOSE TRIPLE OPTION"?
We have seen the following STYLES of Triple Option come (& in some cases go). There ARE some differences in preparation for each:
1. Wishbone
2. Split Back Veer
3. I-Veer
4. I-Bone
5. Flexbone (what WE see most)
6. Shotgun Triple
7. Pistol Triple
ETC.
There is even a boob out by my old friend Tony DeMeo called:
"101 Ways to Run the Option Nov 15, 2007"

The best SINGLE source of the topic is (on Amazon.com) by another old friend of mine = Richard Bell. As Defensive Coordinator at Air Force, Richard not only PRACTICED vs. the "Triple", but played against it vs. the likes of Navy, Army, ETC. He used the 3-4, 3-3 Stack, & the 4-3.

PS: I have a friend who is in charge of film for an ACC member school. He sends me film on any team that does well vs. Ga. Tech. so I can keep up with the latest ideas on defending the FLEXBONE (which is what form of "Triple" WE see most!
