Given to players:
I. WHY DO WE PRACTICE?
A. A football team practices to become more efficient in their play. The sole reason for practice is
to LEARN TO PLAY WELL ENOUGH TO WIN.
II. Your ATTITUDE TOWARD PRACTICE is the most important single factor in the development of our team.
A. Some men dislike practice intensely. Their objective is to get it over with as quickly and
painlessly as possible. Individuals or teams with this approach never improve and seldom win.
B. Each individual should strive for perfection in practice. NO ONE EVER REACHED THE LIMIT OF HIS CAPABILITIES. You should realize that each minute on the practice field is intensely valuable and that you can become a great player through diligent work.
C. Many men practice efficiently on those phases of the game that they enjoy. But they do not
practice well on those things which they dislike. If you sincerely desire to become a great
player, YOU MUST SPEND MOST of your practice time, - and work the hardest - on those phases of
football which you do the poorest. Since we prepare each man to play on both sides of the ball
(whether they do or not), every man must be a truly fine ALL AROUND player - - proficient in
every phase of the game.
III. PROGRESSION IN LEARNING: You will learn much more quickly if you understand the learning process.
It works in the following manner:
A. You are told WHY we play as we do.
B. You are told WHAT to do.
C. You are told HOW to do it.
D. You practice and learn how to execute what has been described. You must practice and repeat
everything until you can REACT PROPERLY.
IV. Your rating as a member of the squad will be determined by the following things:
A. Your knowledge of football.
B. Your physical ability as a football player.
C. Your attitude.
D. Your dependability.
E. Your desire to win.
F. We will take numerous videos during early season practices. The grade which you make on on
these videos will determine to a great degree your rank on the squad.
