Hey Coaches, some advise and comments please. I'm coaching an 11-12 youth football team and had been planning on running a spread option but now that sign-ups are over and practice has started my team is small (16 players) and my O line is much weaker than I had anticipated (maybe 130 lbs ave (3 at 140-150 lbs) when league weight limit for running the ball is 130 lbs). I am afraid that my line will have trouble keeping the DL out of the mesh and QB's path while running the option from Ace formation. I am blessed with an abundance of backfield speed, good arms and good hands (4 guys who could be QB's and 4 others who can catch/run). Unfortunately I will have to use a couple of those guys on the line as tackles and maybe one as a tight end (110 lb) because I only have a center and 2 guards (they are decent at pulling and trapping) and they are all 11 year olds moving up. I have Coach Campbell's Gun Option and have gotten some ideas from it but it is geared towards the two back gun. I really want to run a one back gun option and use tailback motion to help keep the D guessing and help keep the LB's from blizing as much. Most passing will have be short, quick passes (slants, curls, outs) and screens. Any ideas, resources, comments, play suggestions will be most appreciated.
