Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I know on the power play the FB kicks out the 1st man past the TE and the BSG wraps through the hole cleaning up the inside. What is your rule for eveyone else? Do they block their inside Gap to man on to backer? Could you inside zone block away and cover everything?
I think you'll find that it's better to stay away from zone blocking when you are running smashmouth plays. What we do is basically have everyone use the gap, man, backer rule you speak of, with the exception of the TE. The TE will check the alignment of the DE and take the best release. So, if the DE is in an 8 or 9 technique (head up or outside shade), the TE will gap down on a DT or scrape to near ILB. If the DE is in a 7 technique (inside shaded), he will take an outside release and work to the first support invert (SS, OLB, etc).
I hope this is helpful. It's a good play, especially if you have guards who can get up in that hole and pick up a backer or a safety.
PLAYSIDE (ALL) = A) IF YOUR INSIDE TEAMMATE IS UNCOVERED – COMBO WITH YOUR OUTSIDE TEAMMATE FROM THE MAN ON YOU TO THE BACKSIDE LB. B) IF YOUR INSIDE TEAMATE IS COVERED – COMBO WITH YOUR INSIDE TEAMMATE FROM THE MAN ON HIM TO THE BACKSIDE LB. NOTE: GAP BLOCK VS. “SOLID LOOK”.
