Glenn Tiger Ellison Run and Shoot

Well, it goes back awhile, but I ran it as a QB back in high school in Ellison's balanced alignment - Gangster right or left pass (Black callis it the slide), Throwback (step out like regular gangster and arc back to throw backside), orbit motion (wing motions to a TB depth) for Power (other wing on the double team), option, or a toss sweep, fullback and wing traps, etc. Loved it. Terminology was Gangster right pass, Gangster right throwback (start right and throwback left) 24 Power, Option Right, 43 Trap, etc. The wings had to learn when to long motion or arc motion by play, but other than that it was fairly simple. We definitely forced other teams to spend a whole bunch of time prepping for us. The disadvantage is about the same as that for any other offensive concept: You pretty much have to dedicate all of your offensive efforts to it. I also wonder if the greater sophistication of today's blitzes (like the zone blitz) and coverages might make it a bit tougher.

It was very simple, particularly the reads, yet versatile. You don't need a kid with a big arm, but he does need good athletic feet and the ability to make good decisions while throwing on the run. It was very well suited for our Sr. QB, a quick-footed athlete with a good arm, not so well suited for me, I was slower and more of a traditional drop back passer, but I still loved running it. I may even run Slide and one of Black's other routes (can't remember then name at the moment) with my youth team this year if we have any kind of passer.
