Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I appreciate your interest in this style of offense. Call me at 804-740-4479 if I can be of service (in Virginia - we are both in EDT). If you want to see a GREAT video on this type of thing (what's best to the "WIDE" - or as some call it "WHITE" side of the defense, & what's best to the "REDUCTION" - or as some call it the "RED" side of the defense), and WHEN to zone as well as WHEN to fold = get the video called "COLORADO'S TWO TIGHT END OFFENSE" by Bill McCartney. They had a GREAT One-Back running attack in 1995 (year he retired). VERY, VERY close to the Joe Gibbs running game that I believe in. This video is a MUST for someone of your interests. Order it online from "SYSKOS" sports videos & books. Have a good evening & a great weekend!
PS: When running the Inside Zone to split end side to 2I - IF there is a shade on the center's strongside - we can use the 3 man zone blocking A. Gibbs talked about (what JOE BUGEL calls "GANG"). the ON G - CTR - OFF G = 3 man zone to callside (the off G is going to HAVE to take a tight split & be as far off the ball as possible to cutoff shade.
What is the blocking like backside for the 1 back/3 wide zone play you described above?
As far as having both d-lineman line up inside like that. I would check to an outside zone where you can block the shade. Or maybe run tha 40/50 wheel play or just tell the BSG to wash the shade and have a pre-determined cutbak.
The OFF G cuts his split to "6=12", & is as far off the ball as legal. He trys to cutoff the shade - but the main thing is to STAY on him! We don't PRE-DETERMINE the cutback - it has to OCCUR. You already know our Zone Blocking rules - they rely on RECOGNITION. We have "names" for each potential "double team" that MIGHT occur in both Zone & Counter/Power blocking, & only make the calls if there is a "gray area". EXAMPLES of Calls:
1. MINGO = man block 2. COMBO = zone block with offside H/Y & T (T would be covered) 3. SLIP = " " " " T & G 4. SCOOP = " " " " G & C 5. RAY/LENNY = " " " Center & onside G (RAY = RT & LENNY = LT) 6. READ = " " " Onside G & T 7. TUT = " " " " T & TE 8. GANG = " " " " G-T-TE (3 man zone) 9. TAG = fold block with Onside G & T 10. TEX = " " " " T & TE
NOTE: 1-10 primarily refer to ZONE plays
11. FOUR = Double team between TE & tight wing (another TE) from man on Te to near LB\ 12. TREY = " " " Onside TE & T from man on Tackle to backside LB 13. DUECE = " " " " T & G " " " Guard " " " 15. ACE = " " " " G & C " " " Center " " " 16. GAP = All playside blockers block first man to inside whrn CTR & On G are covered (Counter/Power series).
NOTE: 11-16 primarily used in Counter/Power series.
Since all we really teach is the zone blocking, & counter/power blocking - we have a lot of time to spend on this. As I said: WE PREFER NOT TO MAKE CALLS BUT TO BLOCK BY RECOGNITION (COVERED/UNCOVERED) - but when there is a "gray area" - we are prepared to make calls. Our kids KNOW what those terms mean - since we refer to them everyday inb practice.
Coach do you run 2 back/3 wide?? How would you adapt the zone running game to that formation?? Lets say you have a 5,1,3,5 look on the d-line. Would you have a rule like 6 in the box run 7 in the box throw it??
NO, I do not run ANY two back sets. 2 TE/2 WR/1 RB - OR - 1 TE/3 WR/1 RB! On OCCASSION - 3 TE/1 WR/1 RB & that's all! I still want to talk with you via phone - call or email me at: 804-740-4479. or butzadams@hotmail.com I want to fax something to you that can't be explained without diagrams!!!!! Contact me ASAP by pne of the methods above.
For Alex Gibbs tapes - contact DAVID at lgcuban@comcast.net He has them & might be willing to sell you a copy. ALSO - check the GILMAN CLINIC SERIES (makers of dummies & sleds). I THINK he did a clinic for them from where these tapes (2) came.
