Coaches, if you could only run 1 drill, what would it be? Please describe the drill. Mine would be my warm up drill. I pass out a drill book to my players and I am always looking for new ways to skin a cat.
Warm Up Drill
Purpose: Offensive Linemen able to explode off the L.O.S. in a low, hard driving manner in a strong blocking position, maintain this position for 10 yds, and do so together, evenly as a unit.
Equipment: Cones.
Procedure: Set up the cones at 10 yard intervals, two in front, two at a 45 degree angle, and two at 90 degree angles. They will split up into two lines with an equal amount of lineman in each line.
1. To the first set of cones. Depending on which line he is in, (the right line will start with their right foot and the left with the left foot) he will fire out beginning with a 6-inch power step. He will then slam his second step into the ground as quickly as possible. He will continue to sprint to the first cone straight ahead of him. After he crosses the cone, he will then jog back to the end of the line.
2. The second cone is placed at a 45-degree angle from the lineman. He will fire out using a 6 inch 45 degree power step and slam his back foot into the ground and continue to the second cone.
3. The third cone will be placed at a 90-degree angle to the outside of the lineman. He will take a directional bucket step with his outside foot and quickly slam his second foot into the ground. Once he crosses the cone, his head must be up field. This can be done for either a short pull or a long pull.
