Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
If your above post was intended for me, there certainly is no need of any kind for an apology. You did absolutely nothing wrong to me in any way! I appreciate your comments! Thats the beauty of the board in that everyone gets to state their opinion and noone should ever get ruffled feathers over anything said by anyone else. Just feel free to jump right in there with your comments at any time. You'll see it said here many times over, the real truth of the matter is that there are lots of ways to arrive at a successful conclusion on a football field, not just one.
Coach Easton PS: If I said anything that seemed rude or out of line, please forgive me, I assure you it was not intended that way.

Thanks for your response Coach Easton. I agree 100%. There are really no "right or wrong" answers, just different ways of doing things (and hopefully the way we end up doing things is compatible with the personnel we have). No offense was taken; I was just worried I had put my foot in my mouth while talking about my hybrid scheme on a zone string. I'd love to continue this dialogue.
HosHos, actually the first person I heard discuss "zoning away" on counter was Coach Vint from (I believe) the Bronx, who gave an excellent presentation at a clinic in So Cal a few years back. The way we ended up running our Power and Counter (T and H) using this concept on the frontside was very close to Oneback's descriptions of the Redskins Power running game in some posts from before the season (with covered/uncovered rules). It fit in very well with our overall concept and allowed us to have some very simple general rules that shifted from stepping playside (on our inside zone play) to stepping backside (on our power and counter running game - with pullers coming around from the backside). In fact, we ended up using the exact same rules for sliding our pass protection as well.
Erickson, in his days at Miami, featured zoneing away in a scheme called RIP/LIZ. Joe Gibbs uses it in certain formations only, as do most of the notable zone coaches in college and NFL. I had an ungoing post chat with coach Campbell, who's first love is zone blocking and he is a solid advocate of it as well. Oneback is very well versed on ANYTHING the Redskins do, as he is a personal friend of Joe Gibbs, Joe Bugel, Don Breaux of the 'skins coaching staff plus having run his one back offense since 1981 (with HS adaptations I'm sure) based on what they do. If you have questions about anything, this is the forum to belong to!

Here are the BLOCKING CALLS you need in the ZONE game, AND the COUNTER/POWER game. NOTE: CALL them anything you like - I left the calls out because some of our opponents are on this site. If you want me to TELL you what we CALL them - call me at 804-740-4479!
RUN BLOCKING CALLS
NOTE: ALL BLOCKING CAN BE RECOGNITION — NOT CALLS (UNLESS NECESSARY):
ZONE BLOCKING PLAYS:
1. = MAN BLOCK 2. = ZONE BLOCK BETWEEN OFFSIDE H/Y AND T (T WOULD BE COVERED) 3. = ZONE BLOCK BETWEEN OFFSIDE T AND G (T/UNCOVERED & G/COVERED) 4. = ZONE BLOCK BETWEEN OFFSIDE G & CTR (G/UNCOVERED & C/COVERED) 5. = ZONE BLOCK BETWEEN CTR & ONSIDE G (CTR/UNCOVERED & G/COVERED). "RAY" = RT & "LENNY = LT. 6. = ZONE BLOCK BETWEEN ON G & T (G/UNCOVERED & T/COVERED) 7. = ZONE BLOCK BETWEEN ON T & H/Y (T/UNCOVERED & H/Y/COVERED) 8. = 3 MAN ZONE BLOCK BETWEEN ON G-ON T- ON H/Y. USED PRIMARILY ON OUTSIDE ZONE 9. = FOLD BLOCK BETWEEN CTR & G 10. = FOLD BLOCK BETWEEN ON G & T 11. = FOLD BLOCK BETWEEN ON T & H/Y
POWER/COUNTER BLOCKING PLAYS:
1. = DOUBLE TEAM BY ONSIDE G & CTR FROM DLM ON CENTER TO BACKSIDE LB 2. = DOUBLE TEAM BY ONSIDE G & T FROM DLM ON GUARD TO BACKSIDE LB (WHEN THERE IS A BUBBLE OVER CTR — OR CTR & ON T) 3. = DOUBLE TEAM BY ONSIDE T & H/Y FROM DLM ON TACKLE TO BACKSIDE LB (WHEN THERE IS A BUBBLE OVER ON G) 4. = DOUBLE TEAM BY ONSIDE Y & Z (2nd TE) FROM MAN ON Y TO NEAR LB 5. = ALL PLAYSIDE BLOCKERS BLOCK FIRST MAN INSIDE (WHEN CTR & ON G COVERED) 6. = BLOCK USED BY CENTER AWAY FROM POA. CENTER BLOCKS 1st MAN ON LOS. 7. = BLOCK PERFOEMED BY WINGBACK ON EMLOS — USED ON "COUNTER-LOAD". 8. = BLUFF TECHNIQUE USED BY WINGBACK ON EMLOS.
when you say Rip/Liz are you referring to pass protection or a zone blocking scheme in the run game? If it is the run game what would this play look like?
