Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We run a 100% gun offense with no TE and I was wondering what line calls your players make. What is important to you? I would think number in the box but how do you determine that? Are shades important to you. We run mainly trap/gt/speed option. What else is important to you. Thanks for the help.
We do not operate without a TE, and run very little from the gun - so I cannot answer many of your questions. I will make a few comments.
#1 Numbers in the box is NOT a line call. The press box & the QB need that info - so the play can be called properly.
#2 "Shades" are no more important to you than the other possible alignments of defenders.
#3 Blocking calls should be limited & used only when necessary. RECOGNITION of WHO to block is better.
#4 Calls can be made in situations where 2 (or 3) men are working TOGETHER (as on the Zone, or Counter).
#5 IF you number defenders (0-1-2-3) Center should identify "0" so others can count from there.
#6 This is NOT a call - but something the QB needs to know. Take the FB TRAP for example. It is good to the 3 techniques side of the defense (reduction) but not as good to the 1 technique side (wide side). QB must know this BUT it is NOT a line call.
Time prohibits me from deeper explanation. If you would like to discuss this via phone my number is 804-740-4479 (before 19 AM EDT)
The statement "#5 IF you number defenders (0-1-2-3) Center should identify "0" so others can count from there brings to mind a question that I have had for awhile:
Many teams seem to be identifying the MLB or second LB from the split side for the line prior to the snap. I have wondered if that doesnt give away play direction. Or who the center plans on blocking. Can anyone explain how that ID process is used? Is it as simple as applying the count system as above?
