I know that Fran NEVER played a down....period. I'd love to know how they got the D1 level.

usa today had a story during the season on guys who never played college football and are now head coaches. there are 6 of them. mike leach at texas tech was one of them. fran played baseball in college.

mangino worked his wayup from student manager to student assistant, to g.a. to asst fb coach and now a head coach.

hard work is how they got there.

just because you played college ball does not mean you are a great coach. the best coaches I know have typically had average college careers. superstars in college cannot relate to the kids who are not superstarts when they are coaching.
