In California we can do football related drills (no sleds or bags) during the designated athletic period. We can have additional time for strength and conditioning. We have spring football for 15 days in which we can use bags, sleds, etc. at the end of May begining of June. Summer ball we can do football related stuff every day from the end of school to the start of two a days. We must take a madatory 2 weeks off during this time called the dead period. During the dead period we can only do weight training but no on the field contact. The rest of summer we have 7 on 7 and work on the basics of our O and D as well as strength and conditioning.
CA allows for a lot of time to be spent with the players year around. I find we put in more time than most colleges by a long shot. I know most other states are very limited in what they can do. I really think we run into the problem of keeping up with the Jones here in CA. If one team you play is doing "A" then we better do "A" as well. It just keeps increasing. Right now our normal off season day is like this
1:55 - 2:20 running drills, Medicine ball drills, ladder work 2:30-4:30 weight training 4:30-4:45 Core and Jump Rope
This is about 3 hours a day 4 days a week.

In MA we have "NO SPRING PRACTICES", we are only allowed to do Football specific drills, etc. with our own team with Footballs From Double sessions to the last game(Thanksgiving Day or playoffs). Any thing in between is not allowed with footballs? There are camps, passing leagues, and a few other minor things that a team can do, but not directed totally by the Coach Staff.
