I am coaching in a program whose funds are very limited. I am wandering if there are resources out there for finding money for programs - besides fund-raising. I know that many of us have these problems, but we need an entire makeover. It has been since 1969 since our team has won a league title. This school has been unsuccessful on the football field for 20+ years. I just took over this year and we went to the playoffs for the first time. We are a program faced with money issues and diversity issues. But I truly believe we have the talent to win and be successful. And financial help would help.
I had a friend who requested $5,000 from The Gap (referring to a written grant) and she mentioned that she was trying to personally fund a school dance team that the school would not financially support. Her grant proposal focused on bringing a diverse group of students together and allowing them an opportunity to be successful thorugh dance. She was granted $3500 from them.
I would suggest that you approach the NFL or your nearest local NFL franchise for assistance. Their current grant program appears to be limited to inner city schools and youth leagues but would certainly be worth trying. Best of luck in building on your programs newly found success.

Coach,
In my hometown they have a group called the Sideliners. It is a group of people who provide money to the football program through private donations. The clup consists of people who are very dedicated to the high school football team in their town. I would suggest using some form of advertisment to market the idea of starting a club to help support the football program. If you do this I am willing to bet that you would at least have a couple people who would step up and and help you out. Try targeting parents of some of your current players or or some former players from your team that are in successful careers. If you stay patient and keep pounding this idea into peoples heads you will likely find someone who is willing to help. Ask the local town folk if they want a successful football team to watch and root for. When they reply with the answer yes, tell them you can make that happen with a little financial help from them. Good luck coach!
I remember a story I read about a coach from East St. Louis (IL) who solicited funds from local St. Louis business men for his program. His school district lacked the funds to fund the program. So this is the only route he had available to him. He had a special name for the club and the business men got special perks (tickets, seats, recognition).
