Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Does anyone have a Draw and a Sprint Draw package they are successful with? If so, I would love to take a look at it. We are going to a more conventional I Offense and I think that the Draw/Sprint Draw are essential to this type of Passing Game...Any thoughts?
We implemented a Lead Draw last season that was one of our most productive rushing plays. We started off blocking it by flashing the OLine in a pass set, then moving to block like an Iso. After about 2 weeks into the season, I told our OLine coach to block it just like Iso, without the OLine trying to sell pass. It worked like a charm. It's great because you are often getting your FB on the ILB after he has already dropped into his zone. Even if he reads and comes up, you're still meeting him much further from the LOS than normal. We sold it off of a 3-step drop look out of both the I formation and from split backs. It's also a great play if your FB is more of a ballcarrier than a blocker...it really helps him get on that block.
We also ran a Sprint Draw, but not this past season. Pretty much the same concept, except now your attacking the first man at or beyond the C-gap with your FB and running inside with your TB. We would only typically run this out of the I or offset I.
In my experience it seems the backfield action is what sells the pass look. (unless your linemen on the playside are strong enough to passive set, contact, then drive) Out of the I, we slid both backs with a wide lateral open step, drag the back foot - plant - then attack. QB rips the ball up to his ear, hops on the open step, hands the ball to the TB, then what I think helps stretch the DB's laterally is a hard sprint out action by the qb after the handoff.
