soccer coach stealing your players

I would find it outrageous if the AD, who is supposed to have the best interests of the entire athletic department in mind, would undercut any of the coaches under his supervision by trying to "steal" their players. In some states, football and soccer don't compete because one is played in the fall and the other is played in the spring, but in Illinois, soccer and football are both played in the fall.

We don't have soccer at my school, so it isn't an issue, but we do have golf. Last year, a kid who had played on the golf team for two years (and was pretty decent) decided to play football instead his junior year. Before we would let this kid play, we (our coaching staff) had a meeting with his parents and then later with the head golf coach. We met with the parents to try and find out why he wanted to stop playing golf and go out for football. We met with the golf coach because we felt that we owed him professional courtesy and wanted to make sure that he did not feel that we were being sneaky with his players.

We also told the kid that we felt he should continue to play golf because 1) he was good at it 2) his teammates probably were depending on him and 3) his chances for getting PT in football were slim.

The kid ended up playing football for us, but there was no hard feelings from the golf team.

What do you feel is the correct way Tiger One? I'm from IL too, and like govertical said, soccer and football share the fall season (we do have a spring soccer season as well at my old high school, but it's not the main season for soccer)

Any kid who wants to play soccer instead of football is a kid you don't want anyway. Just my opinion.

I'm sure that you guys are kidding.

With my luck, my kid will want to take up ballroom dancing.

(not that ballroom dancing is a bad thing, it's just not football!)
