Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
How many of you play with the depth of your OL on or off the ball? Do you teach your players that on certain plays they are to align tighterm to the ball, while on others they back off? What is your rationale for doing this (assuming you do). Would love to hear your toughts on on this.
OUR NORMAL ALIGNMENT IS WITH THE O LINES HELMETS ALIGNED ON THE BELT OF THE CENTER. IF WE RUN OUTSIDE ZONE, WE STAY PRETTY MUCH THE SAME, IF INSIDE WE CROWD THE LOS A BIT MORE AS WE ARE LOOKING FOR THAT VERTICAL PUSH, NOT ENOUGH TO BE SETTING A TENDENCY, OF COURSE. THE REASONS ARE OBVIOUS.

Coach, We crowd the LOS as much as possible. Our Midline, ISV and OSV hit so quick that we want to be into and seal the appropriate defenders immediately, while giving the read man as little time to react as possible.
We are as far back as legally possible. We pull our guards and tackles a lot. We like to have angles and feel it is an advantage for our line blocking techniques. I run the wing-t offense with emphasis on option(isv/midline) and jet. good luck.
Guards have head even with the armpits of the center;Tackles and TE's looking in the ear hole of the man to the inside.I consider this crowding the football. Why wouldn't you want to crowd the L.O.S.?This way, hopefully you can establish a new L.O.S. on the defensive's side of the ball.
Guards are aligned with their helmets in the arm pit of the center, tackles and TE's looking in the ear hole of the man to their inside.I consider this crowding the football. We pull guards and tackles a little but run Inside/Outside Veer/Midline.I think as an offensive line coach I try to coach my guys to establish a L.O.S. on the defense's side of the ball. You can't do that further back in my opinion.

Offensively we have evolved from a midline,ISV team to a shotgun zone team. My belief through it all has been that if I crowd the ball and the defense crowds the ball, the advantage goes to the defense. They are usually quicker and/or more athletic, where many times the offensive line is where you put your big boys. If you put big boys head to head, their feet have a tendency not to move, which means at best you get a stalemate. By backing the line out (head breaks the plane of the Centers hip, match heads the rest of the way out), you build in seperation for your offensive line. This will allow them to a) reach the gap to either side, b) zone step to make up the angle of a shoulder technique, and c) force them to move their feet and attack the defensive guy. We stress foot work and body position and work steps everyday. Seperation allows us to reach, zone, and knock the p#*@ out of the defender on power blocking schemes.
