Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We are a 4-4 team that has had difficulty defending inside the 10 yard line. We typically play with two 2i techniques, two 5 techniques, and with the two OLBs play 9s. The 9s are manned-up on the TE to their side or attack the outside hip of the deepest back if they don't have a TE. We also frequently send both ILBs through the B gaps as well. I am looking for suggestion of what has been successful for other coaches.
We are a 50 team, so we bring in a Tackle and get rid of our useless FS (ha ha). We go to a 7,4i,2i,2i,4i,7 across the front. Our strong safety plays in a 9. He gets his hands on the TE and goes where he goes. If it is out for a pass he goes with him, if he blocks down, he pushes him in as hard as he can and looks for the reach, kickout, or puller. Our corners are straight man. If there is 2 TE and and 1 WR, that corner plays the same technique as the SS. If there is a 2TE team and a full backfield, both corners play that 9 position and the SS (plays in the middle of the formation like a LB) gets the back that is closest to the LOS. LB are in the B gap and have first back out of the backfield.
We have had success with it. Not many passing teams in our league. By doing this we are sound on the pass though. C always has #1, SS has #2, and LB has #3 (or #2 in a four receiver set). I you go against a 3X2 team. Everyone has a man and the six man line fends for themselves, they have the QB.
Thanks for the response coach. Do you have the d-line penetrate or cut through the legs of the o-line? Your adjustment was actually something very similar to what I was considering. Again thanks.
It is a scout thing. We teach to cut through, but if we are againt a team that wedge blocks a FB dive or has zero inch splits we will then bear crawl through.
Go to a Goal line Package from your 4-4. I run a 4-2-5 and we walk up the twin SS's to become the EMOLS, put the Mike Backer down as a zero nose with 2 gap responsibility, rotate the Will backer to the midlle. If they are in double tites with full backfield, CB's walk up to within 1 yd and 2 yds deep of LOS and have back out to their side. Strong safties jam the TE's and can't afford to let them out.
