What do you have for a record board on your weight room wall? I'm looking for some ideas. If it was professionally made, what company makes them. I looked into having one made and they wanted $851. I thought that was a little much. Any other motivational ideas, please pass along. Thanks for your help!
I'm in the process of changing ours around. Currently, I have boards up that display the top two bench, squat, trap bar dead lift, and clean totals all-time and for each current class (Frosh-Soph and Varsity). However, I'm getting away from the concept of absolute strength. My new boards will list the kid's lifts relative to their bodyweight. For bench press, I'm going to have 100%, 150%, and 200% rankings. Squat and Trap Bar Dead Lift will have 150% and 200% rankings (all based on percentage of bodyweight lifted). We aren't going to do cleans or other Olympic lifts anymore. I will have to use one of those max conversion charts because we aren't working to 1 rep maxes anymore, either.
As far as getting them made, I would just make 'em yourself. Go to the hardware store and buy a sheet of plywood, letter decals or stencils, and some paint in your school's colors and have at it!
Personally, I would go with a dry erase board, because the kids need to be breaking records weekly. The goal is to have a different name or group on the board regularly....if this is happening, then everyone is getting stronger. I want that eraser going like crazy and being worked to the nub!
I, too, use strength in relation to bodyweight...which gives everyone a fair chance to be in the lead!
we've got one based on grade.....very best Clean / Bench / Squat / Deadlift / Vert Jump / it's a board with those letters that you pin into the board...
Then base the kids into 3 groups based on weight class.
we go by weight classes. starting at 115 and going up to 205, then an unlimited category. gives players of all sizes the opportunity to get their names up.
we also have a junior high attendance record board where we keep the last 4 sessions (summer 03 - winter 03-04, summer 04, and currently winter 04-05) we also have an all-time attendance chart. we don't use heave weights with those kids, but we wanted to recognize them also.
we also have a "club" board. 3 lift total starts at 625, 750, 875, 1000, 1100.
