Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We are installing a few bunch plays from the Coverdale/Robinson "Bunch Attack" book. Wo questions for you gentlemen:
1. We are considering having the QB in gun and having the RB fake trap action each time. Our RB rolled up 1501 yds and 15 tds last year, so he will draw a great deal of attention. I'm thinking that combined with bunch's natural rubs and quick routes will be a difficult combination to defend. Has anyone run bunch in this way? Any thoughts?
2. What run plays have you found the most successful from the bunch look?
Thanks for you time and as always all your great advice.
We have had success running the toss play into the bunch. 2 outside receivers block man down and the inside receiver pulls around with the uncovered lineman.
Another play we have been drawing up out of bunch is the Crazy option or Utah play to the inside receiver coming back inside and receiving the shovel pass to the other side of the formation. Have you run this? Would be interested in talking more about any ideas in the bunch.

MAXIM - the three big runs in the ORIGINAL Joe Gibbs "BUNCH" were:
1. Toss INTO Bunch with "TRUCK" blocking (everone in BUNCH blocks down & they pull ONT T for run support).
2. Wham ("Lead Nose") play off Inside Zone with the inside receiver in Bunch (H or Y) trapping the man on Center or first man on LOS beyond Center if he is uncovered. Generally RB aims for butt of G on Bunch side & cuts it just over Center.
3. "H Around" - faking Inside Zone towards the Bunch side & handing back to the best RUNNER of the BUNCHED men (who is off the LOS) on a REVERSE to the other side. The OFF G (on Bunch side) pulls & blocks #3 weak (ON G blocks #1 & ON T blocks #2 to P/S).
Bill, As I have told you, put the "H Around" in sometime back and it is really being well executed now by my guys. I really like the sounds of the reverse off bunch that you outlined above, will be giving that a close look as well. Who gets the ball in the toss into bunch, RB or H ?

Wham action to me always indicates a double team at POA and help from the backside, agreed? I guess in this play "Wham" is just a name and really does not constitute wham action as it has both off G & T blocking away from bunch side. I REALLY LIKE THE PLAY!

Some people refer to the play as "WHAM" (big play for Stephen Davis & Carolina Panthers in their Super Bowl season). Redsskind called it "40 or 50 LEAD NOSE' (H traps Nose or first man on OTHER side of Center if no nose).
3x1 sets for us (I know you use 3x2) are mainly when the ball is at or near (within 2-3 yds) of the hash. Otherwise - we are balanced up (2x2 sets) . Check my email.
You can run the toss to the bunch as stated above with the QB as the ballcarrier and the RB as an extra blocker. We have also run the counter back away from the bunch off of the QB sweep action. Very tough for linebackers.
This past weekend at the glazier clinic the bowling green oc made a comment that they like to package plays out of bunch. Toss to the bunch and either zone or dart away from the bunch. They just count the numbers to the bunch side.

One Back, Could you please explain the H around again. I did not quite understand the first post. I am trying to get the image in my head and I am having a difficult time seeing it. Could you email me at KRogerson@hvc.rr.com Thanks Coach Wright
We dont lose any games we just run out of time.
