The Tilted T Offense was created by Cecil Bird of Tuscon, Arizona. He was a Football and Basketball coach for many years at Sabino High School. The Tilted T is another of many Wing T modifications that utilizes a slot between the Guard and Tackle with a "Z"back stacked on top. This gap/slot is referred to as the "Tilt Hole". With the Z back, Full Back and Tail back forming what looks like a "Tilted T". This offense has taken on a life of it's own with the use of it by his son Kevin Bird who has coached in the Imperial Valley for many years in both C.I.F. Southern section and San Diego section. Many more formations have been developed from this original Tilted T formation. Coach Bird spoke on this offense at the S.D.S.U. Coaching Clinic during the 1996-97 school year. Many coaches facing this offense have trouble knowing how to cover the "Tilt Hole". It purposefully spreads the defense and provides double team blocking combinations between the Z Back guard and tackle, or when defended by a soft 4-4 defense allows the Z-back to act like an unblocked lineman/lead blocker. I'm sure if you have any more questions, he would not mind being contacted at Central Union High School. Hope this helps a little. Take Care.
I also ran this offense with the permission of coach bird for my youth team in Fontana, CA with a youth team called the Fontana Lancers for the 2011 season. Just like mentioned above, it has a 3 back set with the 3rd back(Zback) lined up between the guard and tackle filling a gap called the tilt hole. There are quite a few set formations with the 3 backs and the tilt hole. It was hard to defend at this level as well averaging 29.3 points a game.
