Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
LB drills should include read drills, scrape drills, flow drills, angle pursuit drills, drop drills and tackeling drills, as well as shedding drills, to mention a few.

when using this drill, do you have them attack the track of the back or attack their gap responsiblity? i have the book and was just wondering how you taught this. it does seem like a good drill, though.
If we get an In read from a FB, the MLB takes the path of the FB. Plug the hole. For the At read (off-tackle), we have our MLBs first step with the FBs angle to get him flowing downhill off-tackle. (We read backfield flow first while keeping the guard in his periphial) Next the MLB sneaks a peek at who may be coming to block him. Vs a 40 front he will usually see one of the following: 1. OT - straight man blocking. 2. TE - G scheme with a G kick out pull. 3. Some kind of combo with the OT coming off the DT double team. 4. FB - Iso scheme. It only takes a moment to figure out who is coming to block you.
From there we do the following: 1. Rip over the top of the OT unless he is coming very high. 2. Rip under the TE. Going over the top of him on an off-tackle play gives a cutback lane to the RB. 3. Take on a FB with the shoulder pads. Stop him as deep as possible. The key for an Iso is if the TE and T are already engaged in a block and no-one is coming to the MLB on the LOS. That will leave an "open window". Close the open window.
When the FB is taking an Out (Outside) angle, we still want our MLBs to run downhill and not parallel to the LOS. If there is an open window off-tackle we have our MLBs take it and pursue from the inside-out. If the TE is hooking the DE we usually can scrape over the top of them. Again, the key is if there is "green grass" in the off-tackle spot, take the opening. If there isn't, scrape over the top.

I'll send you our comprehensive linebacker packet for a 40 defense. It's in Excel, so once you open it, it will have all our drills illustrated, our practices for the for the summer and the first 3 weeks of camp outlined, read drills and block reactions for both inside & outside guys.
I'm really 'proud' of it, because it showcases the versatility of those Microsoft Office products, rather than spending $300 to diagram a play (my 42 Nickel playbook is completely done in Excel as well).
I would love to get a copy of your Excel formatted LB drills. I am very interested as I have just taken on the task of creating a D playbook in Excel. Would enjoy your expert advise.
