Coach the L-step is used with the inside zone blocking schemes and the bucket step is used with the stretch play. The L-step puts an offensive helmet to the near ear of the down defender, with the bucket step the landmark for the offensive line is to rip the backside arm through the playside number. The L-step is lateral and is known as an influence step the second step must attack the LOS. Thus the "First Step Ties, "The Second Step Wins". Coach CAmpbell
Got this term from Les Steckles when he was with the Denver Broncos.

Stick with the L-Step you would always want your toes pointed to the goal line must push this play vertically to the 6 man box when 7 in the box the angle of push starts to head out at an angle with the toes starting to point towards the side line at a 30 degree angle approx. Coach CAmpbell
Why does the angle of the feet and push differ with a 7 man front than for a 6 man front when pushing the inside zone? How does the o-line know if they are to push vertically or at an angle?

what happens here is that with 6 defenders in the box the push goes vertically but whenever the defense puts more into the box the more towards the play the push must become because of the extra defender now located inside. Coach CAmpbell
