Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We used to drop step but have now gone to more of a pivot. We use the terminology: "Start the Lawn Mower" - "Pivot" - "Get Into the Line"
The arm movement is, as mentioned, - similar to pulling the cord on a mower. At the same time we teach the lineman to pivot by going playside heal and backside toe. The next action is a step into the line to get an inside-out relationship on the trap man.
I just paused a minute to use "in the trenches" slap the dog method. (My wife thinks I am nuts) I may look at this further. It does tend to keep you lower. I still like the pivot however. Also, since I have two Aussies laying at my feet, I may need to change the terminology if I do decide to adopt the "Slap the Dog" method.
Coach the technique of slaping the dog instead off throwing the elbo to open the hips is a much more efficient way of keeping the hips down. You will always slap the dog with the down hand this keeps the guard from rising. Kids enjoy the terminology also , but as the guard opens up ininvisions slapping his dog with the back of his hand. The use of the slap I learned from Coach McWhorter the oline coach at the University of Texas. In The Trenches is one of our line coaches here at our school and does a great job getting this taught to our younger players. Coach CAmpbell
Coaches (Coach C and IN t Tr), I had my guard play around with the "Slap the Dog" method today and I like it. I am going to use it next season. Thanks. I am still going to use "Heal-Toe- and Go" but will get to that position with your method. I like the pivot because it keeps the trapper into the LOS and does not allow him to bow. The first step then becomes a step with the back foot into the LOS. Yes penetration can hurt this technique but we stress to our line that no penetration can be allowed inside of the trap. The pivot method I picked up from one of the OL coaches at Marshall.
JM lets take this further and start to discuss the counter with backside guard and tackle pulling. I call their tech slap the dog as you slap the dog you are drop stepping with the playside foot. The back side foot will then take a lateral step to the LOS and then the puller starts to climb as the guard tracks EMLOS and the tackle climbing to gain vision on the playside LBer. Coach CAmpbell
Yes indeed haave and have run counter with the center as the lead back and the TE as the second tracker. Have Run both the center and the tackle as the pullers and also run the counter with the fullback as the second lead blocker coming off the uncovered rule which dictates the first puller.
