7 in the box you should look at throwing the ball. They have you out numbered, unless you would motion a receiver in to block the extra defender. Inside zone rules should hold true if you are no TE, one TE, or 2 TE's.

Vs. the 3-3 stack your playside OT is covered and your PS guard is uncovered. These two players will tandem or combo the first stack.

The center and the GS Guard will do the same on the middle stack.

The BS Tackle needs to take a playside slide step and block the B gap defender. (If the DE slants inside the OT will block him. If he Will Lber scrapes the OT will stay on his track and block the Will. The QB is responsible for the DE with a boot fake, read scheme from the gun, fake jetsweep, fake reverse after the zone handoff, etc...

In our 4 wide sets we try to see if we can formation the defense to outnumber them to one side or another. We like to get into a trips open set. Some teams will keep a alley player to our single receiver side when we just line up in the formation, but if we motion the slot across to trips open they will run with him. Then we will run the ball to the single receiver side. Other teams will just will put 4 over our 3 receiver side and then we will run the zone play to the 3 receiver side.

Bill- Being a spread guy, we check to 7 man pro exactly as you do. I have always found that to be the liz side, as in cover two the free will always be on the liz as the QB in my system always locates him first. I guess he can change sides, but can only picture that being if he is spying a particular receiver. I utilize my TE alot in our 22 formation (one back) 1 formation (pro with the "I" backs) 4 formation (wishbone) and several "Easton Special" passing alignments. The best I ever had was James Coley,( All American at Clemson, 3 years with the Bears and one with the Colts) 6'8 280 with great hands and could block like a wrecking ball! He was my TE on my 1994 AFL Super Bowl Championship team, earned all League honors and was the starting TE on the Southern Division Pro Bowl team that I got to coach that year. WE defeated the Northern Pro Bowlers 16-7.

Bill- We are solid in our togetherness in our thinking on this topic. If they show 8 and bring 7 we are going to be ready for them. If they show 8 and bring 8, we will always have a plan to put a block on them. When in my 2 x 3 spread, lots of times in my scheme that entails the QB becoming his own best blocker by running out of trouble with his athleticism. I know your a drop back guy, but like me I also know that QB protection is paramount concern. TIMING IS EVERYTHING IN THE SUCCESSFUL PASSING GAME, IMO. If you load your QB up with too many "mental" assignments, i.e. reading unnecessairly, etc. your never going to be "on time" with the throw. You know my QB training regimens are all built around the theory that " perfect practice makes perfect" and you only become proficient by repping the routes and patterns, with the same QB and receivers, until you turn green! Thats my philosophy in a nut shell.
