In regards to the original question of hand-off or toss:
Gibbs states that it really doesnt matter, BUT it does make the selling of the keeper series harder if you toss all the time. Gibbs says the toss was necessary because of upfield penetration through his guards right after the rule change to eliminate clipping in the clip zone, AND it is still very important to coach the running back to be disciplined enought ot run his track and live with his first read/cut.

I'm a young coach trying to learn this zone blocking. My question is a play going to the right and a DE playing a 9tech or wide 9 does the uncovered RT double team with the TE or guard??
running the inside zone against a 5 eagle defense where you have a nose and 2 over the guards who blocks who and same defense running the outside zone who gets who on a play to the right. Trying to understand this zone stuff thanks for the help.
TS - we see defenses frequently that cover both Guards AND the Center (Tight 5-3; Bears 46; etc.). Need to know where everyone ELSE lines up to answer the question (say vs. a 2 TE/2 WR/1RB set)! "Knights of 3" rules will hold up!
A defense playing "solid" from guard to guard means that the OLM's are going to play man with BSG, Center,PSG with the man over them. Like Bill says, we have to know where the others align to answer the question in full.

F: End man on LOS BST: If I am uncovered (I consider BST uncovered, because F has DE) zone with BSG from DT to WLB BSG: If I am covered zone with my teamate backside C and PSG: man (If me and my backside teammate are covered: man) PST zone with Y, S to MLB
same thing for outside zone, just different blocking techniques by line and reads by RB
By the way, in Bills post he credits these rules as mine, this is funny, as I learned them from him!

You can get a companion play off the toss action with a trap to the FB if you are in and I. I've seen a few teams have ALOT of success with it as well. The QB opens with the toss... shows the ball high, spins, and hands off back to the FB, who is on a trap path AWAY from the side of the toss. The only difference is you'd pull the 'toss' side G and 'power zone' the G-C.
Personally I would think about both. The toss is great into the wide side of the field - it tends to make the play wider IMO, or if you have a really speedy & shifty back.
I LOVE the Keeps/Nakeds/Boots/PA off the handoff but... I also have seen many teams be effective with the trap action.
