Question... I know your zone rules, but I have a question. Scenario... You are TE left with a FB and TB (I set) and you are running zone right. If you are going against a Shade (all-state player) and a 5 with the LB in the B gap, do you ever game plan for the PSG to help or get a shove on the shade player even though it is against the rules (you have a 3 on the backside, so no help from BSG)? Just wondering if you have been liberal with them on a week to week basis.
I thought Rico was a backside block on tight zone. The Guard and tackle on BS 3 tech. or guard and center on backside shade driving the defender opening up the rollback.
Bill - you do that WITHOUT bending the rules. The ON GUARD (who is in a 14" to 18" split, & OFF the ball to begin with) gives the Shade a good shot with his inside hand (or forearm) before going thru his zone block with the ON T. IF the ON T has a 5 techniques on him (& indicates this to the ON G by calling "5')) the ON G does not have to be in a hurry because a LARGE % of the time (if there is a 5 on the ON T) the ON G is going to end up on the B gap LB ANYWAY after ONE step towards the 5 to make sure he doesn't cross the ON T's face inside!
