What is the difference between stretch and bounce? Also, why is 36-37 Bounce and 48-49 Bounce is the point of attack the same or different? If different, why?

The footwork for bounce and where the back receives the ball is tighter and for the stretch it goes outside wider and uses a dropstep the the oline trying to work their position to the playside number. Also for the Bounce the back starts inside to set the LBers up and then bounces outside. The bounce play using a slow rotating zone blocking scheme with the near ear rule. Coach CAmpbell
Coach C for the stretch do you want your linemen to reach the playside number of the defender and hook them or push them to the sideline letting the running back cut back?
For example vs. a 9 and 3 strong what would the blocking look like for stretch?

Coach Joe indeed we want to reach the defenders playside Jersey number and this happens by using a dropstep some coaches use a 45 degree angle step. I perfer the dropstep because the play tends to stretch more, if defender widens the offensive lineman will run the defender to the sideline allowing the running back to find the cutback. Coach Campbell - what do you teach your running back in terms of where/when to bounce? I have heard several different things (get on the heels of your OL, etc., etc.) Thanks in advance Coach. Matt

a real key to running the stretch is the cutback by the running back, but back to the linemen. I tell my linemen to dropstep taking their backside arm through the playside jersey number, their should be no rotation of their butts. The key is to get the linebackers scraping wide and this is accomplished by the Qb showing the handoff to the inside hip of the tackle and or wider. Get the ball to the RB as deep as possible and make sure the first initial step by the tailback is a dropstep. Coach CAmpbell
