I have a teaching license in PE. What do I get a MASTERS in to make me marketable? or just a good idea? TECHNOLOGY? ADMINSTRATION? not totally interested because I think being an AD would take away from my FOOTBALL duties...

This is not a admin. program, but if you choose to aquire the admin degree at a later time about 1/3 of the credits will transfer into the admin program. JD

I also know that St. Thomas in St Paul, MN, St. Scholastica Duluth, MN offer these programs. I'm not to sure if they are on line or what. JD

I did the University of Phoenix Online Educational Technology Master's Program. It was awesome. All of the classes are online and there is no set time for class. Basically, you just have to post two messages a day and get your papers turned in on time.

I loved it. With 3 kids under 5 years old, a wife who works full-time, and coaching 3 sports, the online program was about the only way that I could get a Master's degree done. The whole thing took me about 16 months, start to finish. That's taking one class at a time (the classes last anywhere from 2-6 weeks, depending on credits).

Are you teaching right now? If you are teaching right now and are pretty secure with your job, go ahead and start a Master's Program. However, if you aren't working right now, don't start your Master's degree until after you get hired. A Master's degree can actually turn off principals because you will get paid more than some 22 year-old kid right out of college. PE teachers are a dime a dozen. Most schools are going to hire the cheapest one they can get.

That's the situation that I am in. I'm a history teacher, and we are a dime a dozen also. I got my Master's degree last August, but now it looks like we might have to RIF some teachers due to declining enrollments. I'm low man on the totem pole, so if the axe falls, it will be pretty close to my neck. This summer, I am going back to school for an endorsement in Driver's Ed because we will need a Driver's Ed teacher if I ever get bumped out of my History slot.

Currently, I am taking general courses, because in Pennsylvania we need 24 credits in six years beyond our bachelor's to maintain certification. Good luck with everything coach.

thanks for the info, I teach in Chicago Heights,IL. I coached at Homewood Flossmoor last two years, now I will be at Bloom Twp.

The only thing that turns me off about the AD gig is the hours (I want to have a life after Football season) and the Adminstration Masters Program...those classes don't thrill me too much.
