Sled choice to drill Zone Blocking

We used the Crowther 2 man for combo drills. You have 1 player for each pad with a LB standing behind the sled. To start the drill both linemen fire into the sled with eyes up. The coach (standing behind the linemen) designates the side for the LB to flow. As the LB Flows to that side, the OL to that side comes off to block the LB; the other OL overtakes the block on the sled.

we shade to the left, and the sled is to the playside. then we take the step to it and aim for the number on that side like we would on our combos

and then hit the other steps they would do. it is just a way to get a ton of reps on the basic rule and steps that go with it.

I don't really like sleds much, as they do not fight back, and they do not move side to side, but it is good for this kind of stuff at the start of the year, when we get that stuff down, we will start off with a double team on the sled with each player's head on either side of the dummy looking for the backside linebacker (me) I make them keep on the double team until i see all of their eyes.

once they get this down, we leave the sled alone unless I see some step degradation or lack of ooomph coming off the ball during the season. on average, once the season gets going, I use a sled about 1 time every two or three weeks
