Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I do not have enough players to two platoon and I really don't like the idea of just practicing offense one day and defense the next. Do any of you guys have a practice schedule that incorporates each side of the ball everyday during practice, maybe incorporating one or two special teams each day.
we are in the same boat. I have spent most of my coaching life at small schools. We practice both sides of the ball each day and place and emphasis on one side. For example, Monday we'll come in and lift weights and condition, then we'll go out and practice offense Individual time as well as run and pass hulls vs the opponents defense. We always come together and run team Offense as well while incoporating punt team and extra point into team time. That usually takes an hour and a half to run through all phases. We follow that up with a short defensive practice. Aligning to sets, getting automatics, identify personnell, etc.
Tuesday, we come in and focus on defense using a similar format but leaving more time at the end for offense.
Wednesday, we divide time relatively even unless we feel like we need more emphasis on one side.
You say you both lift and condition BEFORE you practice. Was curious as to why you would do that. For example, I would not want my QB's especially, to get all tightened up before going out and throwing the football, or any position for that matter. Is it a time thing to where you can't have them lift after practice?

We run it pretty much the same as Coach dooright. I don't like one day as O and one day as D either just because the guys need to be able to remember what they are doing. At least with them seeing it (even if it is for less time) everyday they have a better chance of retaining all the information as we get to gameday.
We changed our practice this year so that we emphasized offense on Monday and defense on Tuesday and then hit both on Wednesday. I also agree that the guys need to rep stuff everyday. To fix the situation, we came up with this schedule:
Monday - Individual offense, team offense, and we added individual defense
Tuesday - Individual defense, team defense, individual offense
Wednesday - team offense and defense
This way, we can still hit both each day, but each side of the ball gets one day where it gets the majority of the time. We also do two special teams on each one of these days.
I coach at a relatively big school (about 70-80 on football team), and we practice offense and defense every day. We try to 2-platoon, but are not always able to. On Tuesday and Wednesday (we play Friday nights) we always have an individual offensive and defensive period. After the offensive period, we have an inside run/perimeter and pass period. If we are emphasizing offense, we will have a team offensive period. Defensively things are a little different. Sometimes we will have a combo run/pass period after individual; and sometimes we will have a 1/2 line period (it depends on the kind of offense we are seeing that week). We don't always have a team period each day. Again, depending on the offense we are seeing that week, we might have a combo period or a team period, depending on what we did earlier in the practice.
