educating the elite? come on. most private schools are filled with kids of middle class and blue collar kids. most private schools the parents want to give them a better legup in life.
if the chicago public schools would do something inregards to education people would not send their kids elsewhere.
most private schools barely keep their doors open. they struggle with pay and insurance issues just like the public schools do.
as for choosing studnets their is some turth. however most private schools are church related so if your school is lutheran and a lutheran wants to go to that school they will be admitted. there are LD lutheran kids at lutheran h.s.
I left a private to come to a public school just to see what it is like. the major difference is expectation. at the public I am at teachers wear blue jeans and they expect the kids to respect them. I bet you are not expected to wear a shirt, tie, dresspants and dress shoes at your public. i know I am not but I do anyway because it was expected of me at the private school.
students are expected not to wander the halls, not to speak during class, to wear a uniform at the private I was at. purely lack of discipline and expectation is why publics are in the situation they are in. the staff at my public is more politically motivated then they are educationally motivated. they need the gov to gives more money but more money will not make kids smarter.
I bet many of you have never been in a private school so your experience is limited to what people have told you. I hear all the time from my fellow teachers how the floors must be gold and every teacher gets what they want. you know what the motto was at the private I was at" do more with less"
JCA has had some great players but not the number of d1 a players you say they have every year.
here is how to solve your little problem. why doesn't the IHSA just give every public school a first place trophy in every sport and then those who choose to be in the playoffs and play the very best competition be it public or private can get it on.
go vertical would you hold a public school to the same standards if they won every year. say riverside brookfield won that last 3-4 5 A championships. would you vote for them to moveup? say they had a run of several d1a players in that time. 2 out of the last 3 rbhs qb have went D1. the current kid will go D1 in a couple years. they have receivers which have went d1 barsic to powers was a state record for recptions. or is it okay for a public school to dominate?
