Yeah and open enrollment sucks. I lost my best player for the 2003 season to the big school power around here b/c his dad wanted him to have a shot at the a ring. They lost. Guess he did not get his ring. Being a small district we lose kids b/c we cannot offer everything. Educational choice is one thing. This kid left for football, not b/c he wanted to take an A-P Government class or something. (I am done venting now, it just sucks b/c the kid was a captain too and our top player).

There is well over 200 Class AA schools, less than 30 of which are private. Most of the enrollments of the private schools that are in Class AA are toward the lower-to-middle range, so a defacto multiplier already exists. In two-class sports in AA, privates don't dominate because the have to "play up" to bigger schools.

Not sure about the breakdown for football, but typically, the private, Catholic schools have been pretty dominant in Class 2A-Class 6A. The only reason they don't win in 1A, 7A, and 8A is because there seldom is significant numbers of private, Catholic schools competing in thoses classes.

Yes, two private schools that have put together an almost unbelievable dynasty. I can think of few successful public school programs that are even in the same league as Montini and PC when it comes to wrestling.

I have already stated that the private schools do not field teams in all sports. However, the private, Catholic schools tend to perform proportionately better than their public school counterparts in the sports in which they do compete.

Just to restate, I think that the multiplier is wrong. It is not fair to punish the success of certain schools. To my knowledge, the coaches at Mt. Carmel, JC, and PC, and all of the other private, Catholic schools that have won a disproportionate number of championsips have never been caught cheating and breaking IHSA rules anymore than public schhols have. I think that private schools have benefitted from the current arrangement, but that does not mean they "cheated".

With that being said, the current arrangement is not fair. Separate tournaments are the only way to ensure a level playing field. The public schools get to play schools that are subjected to the same rules and limitation as they are and the private schools get to play schools that have the same advantages that they do.

the governer of illinios should decree that no public and private should ever play each other preseason, regular season and post season. two completely seperate associations.

I could invision the privates holding their state football tourny at soldier field in downtown chicago, maybe play there state baseball at wrigley, state basketball at rosemont.

the only question one might ask is how this would effect the public schools. i mean in football your powerhouses are the catholic schools so publics might lose their start players to play on elite private school football teams. lets face it you could play at wheaton and be among 1 or 2 d1 starts or head to JCA and be among several d1 stars. I can see this hurting your public schools.

What the heck does the governor of Illinois have to do with the public/private debate? You completely lost me there. The IHSA is an independent organization made up of voluntary members that is not accountable to the Governor, the General Assembly, or to any other office or agency of local, county, or state government.

It is entirely possible that some kids will leave public schools for the possibility of playing at a school that participates in a high-profile Catholic/private league. However, that is already happening. Case in point is Donovan McNabb who drove past 4 public high schools on his way to school at Chicago (Mt. Carmel) every day.
