This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
we have a 1 & 3 technique in our scheme. When we first start coaching this up in the beginning of the summer, we teach 2-gap from these shaded positions - both guys reading the Guards. I like this because it gives them gap control and keeps them from getting too vertical to too far upfield.
So I am wandering if most of you coaches "2 gap" or just have your guys maintain that gap position, or just shoot the gap.
personally, that would be a great luxury to be afforded if those two guys could control those gaps, but I know we'll never be able to get monster studs on the DLine and /or be able to coach and rep reactions in the limited time we have with them in HS. We are more concerned with the one-gap, quick penetration and control that gap. The ILB will cover the voided gap and must be fast read-type guys. This has helped us stay more aggressive. I've noticed too often that when a HS kid is trying to read, more often than not he's standing up on "skates".
I would have to agree with BROPHY. We tried some of the 2 gap techniques and we were pushed all over the place. We worked the heck out of it too and still it was so much easier for our guys to have a single gap and react on the run to the blocking scheme.
