When you mentioned foot placement depending on Spill or contain techinique, can you go in depth on this? Which foot do you slit the stance with on which technique?
There are two ways to attack a blocker when you go to "Spill" Or "Box" (contain). If a team is well coached they will turn a defender out if they commit to earlly to the Spill or Box. The basic way to attack a blocker is outside foot splits the crotch of a blocker to spill and inside foot to split the blocker to box.
The technique I am now using is to hit the blocker square and get my hands inside to the breast plate. While keeping the feet moving I will now move my body into position (Spill or Box). It will make it more difficult on the back because you will be moving into the gap later and the blocker will not reconize which way you are going to turn you out.

what is your lb technique on down blocks (trap, counter, sweep) on inside lb's? do you teach him to square up to the blocker and take the block on the same way or do you teach him to try to remain square with the los? any help is appreciated. i am not an lb coach.
Vs down blocks we try to get over the top of them by throwing a rip. The back flow will help determine that as well. If the ball is coming down hill at the LBer he will attempt to shock and shed the blocker, but if it going outside of him he will look to avoid or rip over the top of the blocker.
