Question on this rule

You lose this one buddy. You can put as many up there as you want! I read somewhere a few years ago
that the NFL was going to change the rule, don't really know where it stands today. Your AD was right, kidding or not.

If you put more than 7 on the LOS, doesn't that mean that an inside receiver is "covered up" and is not eligible, right?

We ran this formation last year on the JV:

-----WR----WR---------TE-LT-LG-C-RG-RT
--------------------------------------QB
--------------------------------------FB
--------------------------------------TB


I believe that the inside receiver and the TE are ineligible on this play. We caught a few teams napping with this formation because they would send people to cover the inside receiver and the TE even though those two guys were ineligible. Then we would run a lead toss or run power off-tackle to the weak side.

Correction: Meant to say only the two men on the ENDS OF THE LOS are elgible. In your example, on the rip side, your T would be elgible. If any man wearing an INELGIBLE NUMBER aligns in an ELGIBLE RECEIVERS SPOT, he must report to the white hat prior to the play or it is a penalty, at our level of play. I havent coached HS ball for a number of years now, so do not know if that rule is applicable or not at your level. I know it used to be and would surmise it still is in effect as it is a good rule.

You probably meant to say 50-79 not 50-70, right? In our league, centers have to wear 50's, guards 60's,
tackles 70's and TE's 80-89.

Chuck, there is a millioin possibilities! Once, when coaching my son's Jr. High team, put 10 men up on the LOS, long snapped the ball to him at QB and while the defense was still trying to figue out what the heck was happening, he threw a pass to the EMOLS on the rip side who had just taken off on a go when the secondary came racing up to help. It worked for a real big gain and I never did it again. Go Figure.
