Gentlemen,
I usually post this topic once per year, mainly with hopes of uncovering some new ideas or schemes. I have used some of the suggestions I've gotten on this board to our advantage in the past, for instance Oneback's "Counter Weak" with the G and H-back leading. I've also been told to run option weak to death.
Are there any other suggestions on what to run against this defense? Any particular blocking schemes? Backfield actions?
We're talking about a pretty traditional 46 Bear defense:
NG: 0 technique and playing a 2-gap technique in the A gaps
DT's: 3 technique and playing rush technique in the B gaps
DE's: Wide 9 techniques, taking 3 steps upfield and reading as they come
LB's: 5 techniques on OT's at about 3 1/2 yards depth. Man-to-man backfield player.
SS: 7 technique on LOS. Man-to-man on TE. C gap stuffer.
FS: 8-10 yards deep. Free over the top, very aggressive alley player on the run.
CB's: Man-to-man on WR's. Will go "corners over" vs. twins or slot look.
It's tough to zone against, because your 3 interior guys are all covered, so combos are tough. It's tough to run to the TE because of the 3 technique, 7 technique, 9 technique, and ILB to that side. Running to the SE is easier, but you can only do so much over there. Does anyone have a game plan or a list of plays they typically would run against this front? We are primarily a 2 RB 1 TE offense. We typically use our Z as a WR, WB , or any other type of player. BUT, I'm pretty much open to suggestions. Our formation system is flexible and can pretty much do anything you want with.
Let's get some good discussion drummed up on this one if we can...!
