Coaches I have put together a packet and drill tape of over 20 drills for the run game and 7 drills for pass protection, none of which involve using a sled. These progression have helped our program win 3 state titles in Illinois, and reach the state semi-finals 3 additional times in the last 8 years. We believe in hands on teaching and realistic teaching of drills. The reality is that a player will not be blocking a sled during a game so it is not 100 % realistic. Also due to budget cuts we did not have money to even Afford a sled so it made the need to develop and effective sled free system all the more urgent 8 years ago. I have spoken on this topic at many clinics in our state and the feedback I have been given has been very positive from programs that put these drills into their system of teaching.
